Cornell Community Garden

Growing food and friendships since 2014

We’re all about community

Cornell Community Garden is a space for learning, connecting, and growing good food. We are a communal garden, run by members and a volunteer committee. There are no allotment plots here! Inside the fenced area, our registered members and volunteers share the harvest (and the work to produce it). We welcome individuals, families, students and other groups from the Cornell neighbourhood to get involved. Join, volunteer, enjoy the space.

How we work

Community First

Everyone is invited to be part of our community! We welcome families with children, single people, older members, new residents, and people with unique needs. Student volunteers and other volunteer groups are welcome to help out at scheduled times.

Sustainable Growing

We use organic growing methods, with a goal of becoming more self-sustaining and regenerative over time. We grow a diverse variety of vegetables, as well as herbs, fruits, and flowers. Produce is shared between members, volunteers and community residents in need.

Shared Responsibility

The garden is managed by a volunteer committee which organizes the day-to-day operation, as well as budgeting, fundraising, communications, events, and liaising with the City of Markham. Every year, the committee plans what will be planted based on feedback from the members.
